Creating Magic – Lee Cockerell

The Blurb.

Lee Cockerell, the man who ran Walt Disney World  Resort Operations for over a decade, shares the ten practical, common sense leadership principles that guided his own journey from a poor farm boy in Oklahoma to the head of operations for a multibillion dollar enterprise. He demonstates that we can all become leaders capable of outstanding leadership: the kind that inspires employees, delights customers and achieves extraordinary buisness results.

Combining surprising buisness wisdom with insightful and entertaining stories from Lee’s four decades on the front lines of some of the world’s best run companies, ‘Creating Magic’ shows all of us – from small buisness owners to managers at every level – how to infuse quality, character, courage, enthusiasm, and integrity into our workplaces and into our lives.

Simply Magic.

OK…admittedly I have blogged about this book on my old blog, but I have had such a great response from people thanking me for the reccommendation, I thought it warranted another outing here.

Brilliant!

I grabbed this book in a Borders closing down sale and got it for a bargain of £4.60! I actually thought it was going to cost be closer to £15, so already I loved this book! I had heard a lot of th Disney Institute over the past few years, and it’s no secret the company I work for try to imitate Disney in a few things they do. Lee Cockerell’s ‘Creating Magic, 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies’ is, simply put, an awesome read for any Leader, Manager or Employee!

Read It!

I took this book on holiday and read it in 24hrs. Entertaining, funny and eye opening, Lee (I can call him by his first name as I have exchanged emails, he follows me on Twitter and we are friends on Facebook!) literally breaks down the fundamentals of Leadership using his experience and time at Disney. OK…it’s not ground-breaking stuff, but Lee promotes common sense throughout, and it should be. It’s just we all lose focus from time to time. – Thats not to say you won;t pick up any new ideas from this book…Wowzer! I read the book with a notepad and pen…literally re-writing, in a day, what I wanted to achieve as a Leader!

Inspired.

After reading the book, I was so inspired by it, I decided I needed to thank Lee for his great work! – Sure enough he replied personally. Great touch. I even asked him a few questions through email which he replied to. Brilliant. I now have a mentor, who used run World Disney Resort! He has since invited me to a seminar he is presenting at; in Holland. – Unfortunately I can’t attend! I have recommended this book to several of my freinds, all who came back to me with rave reviews! Simply get this book…and enjoy! - Have you read ‘Creating Magic’ – How was it for you!?
